Class 1
...
Very easy. Mostly flat water with a few
small waves and ripples.
Class 11 ...
Moderate. Bigger waves, a little bit of splashing, no obstacles.
Class 111
...
Difficult. Longer rides, rougher rapids. Paddling required but easily learned
under the direction of a professional guide.

Very difficult. Faster pace, longer, steeper drops and violent current along
with obstacles and technical turns.
Class V
...
Virtually unrunnable. Normally beyond the paddle ability of everyone but expert
rafters, this run is an extreme in whitewater rafting. Its been said that these runs
are like being in a blender full of boulders and passengers should be mentally prepared as
well as physically fit before even thinking of taking a run of this caliber. Some of the
Class V rapids on the Kern River were at one time considered unrunnable.
Class V1 ...
Dont even think about it! This class of rapid on the Kern River is
considered absolutely unrunnable by professional rafters. |
